Antique diamond and pearl brooch, Tiffany and Co.

Pieces like this make it easy to understand how Tiffany and Co became such a big deal.

Victorian, Edwardian, Belle Epoque, fan, shell, brooch, pin, pearls, drop, diamonds, platinum topped gold, pinkish brown pearl, collet set, openwork, old European cut, pendant, necklace

So simple and lovely.

Made by Tiffany and Co in 1895, this brooch is designed as an openwork old European-cut diamond scrolled plaque, interspersed with collet-set diamonds. The diamond plaque suspends a drop-shaped pinkish brown pearl, measuring approximately 9.92 x 9.85 mm, with an old Euorpean-cut diamond cap, mounted in platinum-topped gold.

I wonder how it attaches as a pendant - if it has one loop at the top, or one on each side? If it attaches at the top, I think it would be beautiful on a long chain.

This brooch was listed in Christie's 22 April 2010 Jewels auction. All images and info are thanks to Christie's.
